Sprite CIS is designed for self employed individuals or companies operating in the construction sector. In summary, you contract to provide your services to Sprite and we will agree contract terms with either agencies or companies in relation to construction projects requiring your services. We will invoice our clients in respect of the work you do on our behalf or enter into self billing arrangements with them. Either way Sprite will pay you for your services which means that you need only deal with us rather than having to negotiate terms and chase payments from agencies and companies. The invoice that we raise to the agency or company will include our margin, which we will deduct before we pay your invoice to us.
When you provide Sprite with your UTR number, we will contact HMRC to verify your CIS status. This will determine the rate of deduction made from your gross pay. Most subcontractor deductions are made at 20%. In certain circumstances CIS subcontractors will be verified for 0% (gross) deductions. If HMRC cannot match your details under CIS or if they instructed us, you will be deducted tax at 30%. For more information on taxes payable while working as self employed please see Taxes and Deductions.
As a self-employed subcontractor you have no entitlement to statutory paid annual leave. It is your responsibility to organise your work and make appropriate financial provision to allow yourself to take breaks from work.
